Create special Father's Day Cards to celebrate dad and appreciate him for all that he does! Students can acknowledge any special father figure with an "Out of this World" pop-up card. This card can be easily assembled and is a fun end-of-the-year activity. Incorporate lessons about space and adventure to introduce this activity. Select any dies to incorporate into a pop-up card to personalize for each student.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Colored Pens, Crayons, Double-Sided Tape, Glue, Patterned Paper, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut Pop-Up #1B. Cut card to 5 3/4" x 8 1/2". Fold Card so the middle section pops forward to create a Pop-Up tab (Figure A).
  2. Students write a special message for dad or father figure and attach it to the bottom of the Pop-Up Card with glue or double-sided tape.
  3. Cut a 7" x 10" piece of patterned and solid construction paper. Center and mat the patterned paper behind the Pop-Up Card. Be careful not to adhere the Pop-Up tab to the paper. Adhere the colored paper to the plain side of the patterned paper. Fold the assembled card in half (Figure B).
  4. Die-cut an Astronaut from multiple colors of construction paper. To layer, leave one shape whole and cut highlights out of other colors. Adhere using glue.
  5. Create subtle shading to accentuate clothing, gloves and shoes with colored pencils or crayons (Figure C).
  6. Attach the decorated figure to the Pop-Up tab using glue or double-sided tape.
  7. Die-cut the Globe #2 from green and blue construction paper, then layer using glue. To layer, leave one shape whole and cut highlights out of the other color.
  8. Die-cut the letters D A D from 1.25" or 2" Block Alphabet.
  9. Decorate the report cover with patterned paper, Globe #2 and the letters to spell "DAD."
  10. Any combination of decorative dies may be used to create this project (see Main Photo).
