Father's Day Fun

Concept:

Create a decorative Father's Day jar to store special items for dad's hobbies or interests.

Objective:

Develop organization skills by designing unique jars for storage of special items for Father's Day or any occasion.

Create decorative Father's Day jars to celebrate dad and his hobbies or special interests. Dad can use these jars to organize treasures from the garage to the office. Decorate personalized jars for camping accessories, fishing line and tackle, golf balls or collecting coins. Modify this gift for any father figure to meet student needs. This project can be created for any holiday or celebration, using any decorative die.

Supplies Used: Button, Cardstock, Glue, Jar with Lid, Patterned Ribbon 4" Width, Plain Ribbon 1 1/2" Width, Pop-Dots, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut Pliers and Saw from chipboard and multiple colors of cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Leave one color of each whole and adhere highlights from another color (Figure A). Adhere the Pliers and Saw to chipboard for durability.
  3. Depending on the dimensions of jar, cut a rectangular piece of construction paper and computer print or write the words "Dad's Treasures" on it. Mat with contrasting color of cardstock or construction paper to create a label (Figure B).
  4. Wrap the 4" wide patterned ribbon around the jar and attach the label to the patterned ribbon with pop dots.
  5. Slide the embellished Pliers and Saw behind the label to secure to the jar.
  6. Wrap the 1 1/2" wide colored ribbon around the neck of the jar and tie a bow.
  7. Attach a decorative button to the bow with glue (see Main Photo).
