Create fun bookmarks for the winter holidays.
Objective:
Decorate bookmarks to celebrate the winter holidays and inspire year-round reading.

K-4 Standard 3: Choosing and Evaluating a Range of Subject Matter, Symbols and Ideas
- Students select and use subject matter, symbols and ideas to communicate meaning.
Inspire year-round reading with student-created bookmarks to suit all occasions. Create bookmarks to supplement language arts lessons, reward good behavior and academic performance or celebrate holidays.
Supplies Used: Cardstock, Pen or Pencil, Ribbon
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Die-cut the Bookmark, Snowflake from blue and white construction paper or cardstock. Cut away the white snowflake from the white Bookmark, Snowflake. Layer the white snowflake onto the blue Bookmark, Snowflake (Figure A).
- Cut a piece of white ribbon and tie to the white snowflake.
- Die-cut the Bookmark, Pine Tree from brown and green construction paper or cardstock. Cut away the green pine tree from the green Bookmark, Pine Tree. Layer the green pine tree onto the brown Bookmark, Pine Tree (Figure B).
- Write library rules, reading tips or inspirational quotations on the body of the bookmarks (Figure C).
- Incorporate student created bookmarks into reading activities (see Main Photo).
