Lacing Love
Lesson #10035

Concept:

Create a fast, fun and simple lacing heart pocket for Mother's Day.
Can use either AllStar or SureCut Dies.

Objective:

Lace two hearts together to hold flowers or special notes for loved ones.

Physical Education: Movement Forms

Support youngsters with fun lacing projects to develop fine motor skills. Painting and cutting activities promote motor skills and reinforce movement concepts in the classroom. Use ribbons and lace to expose students to multiple textures and patterns. Development of fine motor skills will enable students to gain competency in drawing and writing.

Note: This lesson can be created using either Ellison AllStar or SureCut Dies.

Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Glue, Ribbon, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut two Lacing Hearts using light gold cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Die-cut the word "Mom" from the Uppercase Letters using darker gold cardstock or construction paper. Adhere the letters to the front of one Lacing Heart (see Main Photo).
  3. Die-cut three Flowers using light and dark pink paper for each Flower. Leave the light pink Flower whole. Trim away parts of the dark pink Flower and adhere to the light pink Flower, lining up the holes in the Flowers (Figure A).
  4. Cut a piece of light gold paper large enough to cover the holes in the Dogwood Flowers and adhere to the back of each Flower (Figure B).
  5. Cut three 1/2" x 7" strips of light green paper for the Flower stems. Die-cut three SM Birch Leaf from light green paper. Attach the Leaves to the stems and then adhere the stems to the Flowers. Adhere the Flowers to the front of the second Heart (Figure C).
  6. Cut a 3' length of light gold ribbon. Holding the two Hearts together, lace the ribbon through two holes and tie the end in a knot. Continue lacing the ribbon around to the opposite holes in the Heart and tie that end in a knot also (see Main Photo).
