K-4 Standard 1: Understanding and Applying Media, Techniques and Processes
- Students use different media, techniques and processes to communicate ideas, experiences and stories.
Fun learning stations with interesting bulletin boards motivate students to explore learning concepts in areas like language arts. Teach language conventions by posting sentences and allowing students to identify the corresponding parts of speech. Check for understanding by encouraging students to create original sentences following teacher examples. For further study, prepare index cards with parts of speech and allow students to organize the cards to create sentences. These cards can be posted on the bulletin board for student reflection. Allow students to explore sentences by exchanging parts of speech to create new thoughts.
Supplies Used: Cardstock, Double-Sided Tape, Glue, Marking Pen, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Cut an 8" x 13 1/2" sheet of green cardstock or construction paper. Adhere to a slightly larger piece of turquoise paper for the chart.
- Die-cut Ladybug Combo using black and red paper. Die-cut as many as needed for parts of speech. Leave the black Ladybugs whole and cut wings from the red Ladybugs, cutting out the perforated spots. Adhere the red wings to the black Ladybugs (Figure A).
- Computer print or hand print the title and parts of speech on the chart.
- Adhere the Ladybugs to the chart (see Main Photo).
