Use common household items and classroom materials to create fun animals for any subject area or holiday occasion. Cotton ball sheep can support story time or nursery rhyme fun. Recycle materials and get the maximum value out of everyday materials in the classroom.

Note: The XL Oval, Scallop or XL Oval can be used to create this project.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Chalk, Cotton Balls, Glue, Paint (White), Pen (Marker), Punch (Heart), Scissors, Tag Board, Toilet Paper Rolls

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut XL Oval, Scallop or XL Oval using white cardstock or white construction paper glued to tag board.
  2. Die-cut one black and two white SM Circle 3" from paper.
  3. Gently fold one side of a white Circle together and glue (see Main Photo). Fold and glue the other white Circle. These will be the sheep's ears.
  4. Adhere the ears to the top center of the black Circle.
  5. Cut two small white circles for the eyes and adhere to the black Circle. Use a black marker to make pupils. Add a dot of white paint for the iris (see Main Photo).
  6. Punch a red heart using a red hand punch and adhere beneath the eyes for the nose.
  7. Paint a thin line for the mouth beneath the nose.
  8. Use red chalk to add highlights to the cheeks of the face.
  9. Make five 2" loops of white yarn and tie off. This will be the hair for the sheep. Adhere between the ears (see Main Photo).
  10. Adhere the completed face to the Oval.
  11. Adhere cotton balls to cover the Oval.
  12. Paint two toilet tissue rolls with white paint and adhere to the back of the Oval for the legs of the sheep.
  13. The legs may be cut with scissors to allow the sheep to stand.
