Celebrate students and build self awareness through personalized ceiling décor. Encourage students to share three to five special qualities about themselves to incorporate into their artwork. Customize projects with die-cuts, photographs and illustrations. Laminate the projects for practical use and consider displaying them for any event. These place mats are great ice breakers for the beginning of the year, as students and teachers learn about each other and the special talents of individuals in the classroom community. The projects can also be created as special gifts year-round. As an end-of-the-year celebration, consider highlighting favorite things students have learned in class.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Crayons, Chalk, Glue, Hand Punch, Pen, Photograph, Ribbon, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut EW Scallop Circle using pink cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Draw petals for a flower with dark pink crayon in the center of the Circle. Use dark pink chalk to go over the petal lines (see Main Photo).
  3. Have students bring a picture of themselves from home or take a picture of the student.
  4. Die-cut the students' pictures using the ClearCrop Scallop Circle. Adhere the picture to the center of the petals.
  5. Die-cut shapes of the favorite things of each student from paper. Have the students adhere the die-cut shapes to their Circle.
  6. Use a pen and chalk to highlight the shapes and Circle (see Main Photo).
  7. Use a hand punch to create a hole in the top of the Circle.
  8. Cut a 26" length of thin ribbon and tie through the hole in the Circle.
  9. The completed Circle is ready for hanging above the student's desk or at home (see Main Photo).
