Creative borders highlight bulletin boards and personalize classrooms. These borders transform into valuable teacher tools when used to create number lines for math concepts. The teacher can write a cursive or manuscript letter on each butterfly to teach letter recognition and penmanship.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Chalk, Crayons, Marker, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

1. Accordion fold a 5" x 18" strip of yellow construction paper making sure both folded edges are inside the cutting edges of LG Basic Beginnings Sun (Figure A). Die-cut as many Suns as desired with the accordion fold. If using cardstock, only accordion fold four times as the paper is thicker.
2. Write the capital and lowercase of each letter on a Sun (see Main Photo).
3. Use chalk or crayons for highlights.
4. This cursive border may then be placed on the wall or bulletin board for student identification.
