Beaded Hamsa

Create a colorful hamsa with hanging beads.
Objective:
Assemble a colorful hamsa and explain how some beliefs regard it as a protective amulet.

Decorate a Hamsa as an accent to bulletin boards, as jewelry or to supplement any course of religious studies. Incorporate icons and symbols into curriculum to reinforce meaning and highlight tradition.
Supplies Used: Beads, Cardstock, Embroidery Thread, Glue, Hole Punch, Ribbon, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Die-cut two LG Hamsa using light and dark tan paper. Leave the dark tan Hamsa whole.
- Cut along the perforations of the light tan Hamsa. Adhere the light tan Hamsa to the dark tan Hamsa.
- Punch three holes along the bottom of the Hamsa.
- Cut three varying lengths of light tan embroidery thread.
- Tie a knot in one end and thread different colors of beads on the thread, tying knots between the beads.
- Tie and knot the threads through the holes in the Hamsa (see Main Photo).
- Cut a 16" length of coordinating ribbon and tie through the hole in the top of the Hamsa (see Main Photo).
