Bunny Box

Concept:

Design a bunny box for the holidays.

Objective:

Decorate and assemble unique bunny boxes for Easter or Spring fun, and fill with prizes and treats.

Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5, 6-8

Standard 1: Understanding and Applying Media, Techniques and Processes

  • K-4 - Students use different media, techniques and processes to communicate ideas, experiences and stories.
  • 5-8 - Students intentionally take advantage of the qualities and characteristics of art media, techniques and processes to enhance communication of their experiences and ideas.

Standard 3: Choosing and Evaluating a Range of Subject Matter, Symbols and Ideas

  • K-4 - Students select and use subject matter, symbols and ideas to communicate meaning.
  • 5-8 - Students integrate visual, spatial and temporal concepts with content to communicate intended meaning in their artworks.

Physical Education: Movement Forms

K-12 Standard 1: Develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

Support youngsters with fun, assembly projects to develop fine motor skills. Assembling boxes and bags promote motor skills and reinforce movement concepts in the classroom. Use ribbons and lace to expose students to multiple textures and patterns. Development of fine motor skills will enable students to gain competency in drawing and writing.

Note: Any Box die can be used to create this project.

Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Chalk, Cotton Balls, Crayons, Glue, Pens (Colored), Ribbon, Scissors, Tape (Double-Sided)

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die0cut XL #42 (Rabbit) using brown cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Students may use crayons, chalk or colored pens to add highlights to the Rabbit Box.
  3. Adhere a small strip of black paper behind the eye holes.
  4. Fold on all perforated straight lines. Use glue or double-sided tape to attach the side flap.
  5. Cut a 6" length of ribbon and tie in a bow. Adhere to the front of the Box.
  6. Attach a cotton ball to the back of the Box for a tail (see Main Photo).
