Recycle and Reuse

Concept:

Create a recycle sign with recycled material.

Objective:

Raise environmental awareness with a recycle sign created from recycled material and show how common items can be renewed, recycled and reused.

Support your lessons on conservation and natural resources with a hands-on experience that reinforces practical uses for common items. Show students how to protect the environment and prepare them as stewards of our planet.

Supplies Used: Cardboard, Bubble Wrap, Foam, Glue, Magazines, Maps, Newspaper, Paper (Heavy Weight), Scissors, Aluminum Cans

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Measure and cut a 36" x 8" piece of blue poster board.
  2. Measure and cut a 35" x 7 1/2" piece of green poster board.
  3. Mat the green poster board onto the blue one to create the sign (Figure A).
  4. Die-cut the Recycle Symbol using blue and yellow cardstock. Trim away the yellow arrows and adhere to the blue Symbol (Figure B).
  5. Die-cut the word RECYCLE using common materials of different textures, thicknesses and colors (Figure C).
  6. Center and adhere to the sign (see Main Photo).
