Folding Fundamentals

Concept:

Folding and refolding a sheet of paper in various figures reveals hidden areas for reports, math problems and games.

Objective:

Students use folding techniques to visualize different parts of a report, a math problem or a challenging game.

Create Folding Fundamentals as a fun teaching tool to convey concepts in any subject area. Students may use each of the folded areas to reveal more of a report or math problem or to create a challenging game. Consider using this concept to create interactive greeting cards for loved ones.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Double-Sided Tape, Pencils, Pens

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut XL Folding Fundaments using cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Fold along the two perforations that have the long slit (Figure A).
  3. Open the folds and place double-sided tape inside, close to the perforation fold (Figure B).
  4. Close the folds on the tape and press.
  5. Turn the Folding Fundamentals over with the long perforations running horizontally (Figure C).
  6. Open the flaps to the perforation and fold the flaps behind and under. Press down on the perforations running vertically (Figure D).
  7. Open the two small middle flaps and press down and under on the two long horizontal perforations (Figure E).
  8. Open the two middle flaps to reveal another side of the Folding Fundamentals (Figure F).
  9. Open these two flaps, and Folding Fundamentals is back to the original position.
  10. Decorate with die-cuts to convey concepts in any subject area (see Main Photo and Video).
