Understanding Time

Concept:

Make clocks to show when specific activities or events occur during the day.

Objective:

Create fun analog clocks for lessons on telling time and finding elapsed time.

Supplies Used: Adhesive Numbers, Black Pen, Brads, Cardstock, Felt, Glue, Ribbon, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut three or more LG Basic Beginnings Clock Face & Hands from varying colors of construction paper or cardstock. Trim the handles and feet from these Clock Faces (Figure A).
  2. Die-cut the same number of Clock Faces from gray or silver paper. Adhere colored Clock Faces onto the silver Clock Faces (Figure B).
  3. Die-cut the same number of Clock Hands from black cardstock or construction paper, covering the Hands area of the LG Basic Beginnings Clock Face & Hands (Figure C).
  4. Use adhesive numbers or hand print the numbers to designate the hours on the Clock Face.
  5. Use brads to loosely attach the Clock Hands to each Clock.
  6. Computer or hand print signs depicting different daily activities, like "Breakfast Time," "Lunch Time" or "Bed Time." A classroom schedule could also be used showing "School Begins," "Morning Recess," "Library Time," "Lunch" or other important times.
  7. Clocks can be displayed on a bulletin board. A piece of felt trimmed with ribbon has been used to display these Clock Faces. They are attached with hook & loop dots (see Main Photo).
