Concept:

Use fold-a-cards for creative classroom writing.

Objective:

Celebrate the story of Johnny Appleseed with a creative poem or short paragraph.

Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5, Pre-K-K

  • K-4 - Students use different media, techniques and processes to communicate ideas, experiences and stories.
  • 5-8 - Students intentionally take advantage of the qualities and characteristics of art media, techniques and processes to enhance communication of their experiences and ideas.

Standard 3: Choosing and Evaluating a range of Subject Matter, Symbols and Ideas

  • K-4 - Students select and use subject matter, symbols and ideas to communicate meaning.
  • 5-8 - Students integrate visual, spatial and temporal concepts with content to communicate intended.

Develop good character by recognizing positive themes through literature. Encourage students to apply to their daily lives both inside and outside the classroom environment. Such activities support development of the whole child.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Glue, Marking Pen (Black), Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut the XL Fold-a-Apple Card using green cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Die-cut the Apple again using red paper and adhere to the green Apple.
  3. Write the words, Johnny Appleseed Report, on the red Apple.
  4. Hand-cut white paper to fit the inside of the Card and adhere for writing (see Main Photo).
