Star Reader
Lesson #4738
Concept:
Create a fun incentives card.
Objective:
Each student will have their own star card with tiny stars awarded for each book read or new task accomplished.
Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5
Curriculum: English Language Arts
Supplies Used: Cardstock, Double-Sided Tape, Glue, Pen, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Die-cut XL Pop-Up #1B 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" using gold cardstock or construction paper. Fold on perforations, folding the Pop-Up tab forward.
- Cut a piece of orange paper slightly larger than the Pop-Up and fold in half to create the report cover (Figure A).
- Create a simple design for the cover by attaching a piece of gold paper to the cover at an angle. Cut away the overlapping paper so that the gold paper is flush with the orange report cover (Figure B).
- Adhere the Pop-Up inside the report cover using glue or double-sided tape (Figure C).
- Handwrite, or on the computer, layout and print the student's name and the title onto yellow paper. Die-cut the names and titles using the LG ClearCrop Puffy Star (Figure D).
- Attach the Puffy Star with the title to the front cover and the Puffy Star with the student's name to the Pop-Up tab inside (Figure D).
- To finish the project, die-cut the SM Puffy Star using several colors of paper for students to write the titles of books they have read (Figure E).
- Adhere these small Puffy Stars as the student reads a book, learns a new math concept, helps around the school or makes a soccer goal (see Main Photo).
