Mobile, Hanukkah
Lesson #5526
Concept:
Create a Hanukkah mobile to display holiday symbols.
Objective:
Students will create a holiday mobile to hang at school or home.
Recommended Grade Levels: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Curriculum: Fine Arts & Crafts
Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Stickers, Glue, Tape, Thread, Kite String, Fishing Line, Colored Pens, Markers, Ribbon, Yarn, Twine, Poster Board
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
There is no easier way to build a mobile than with a Spiral die-cut.1. Die-cut the large or extra large Spiral from poster board and punch holes along the Spiral to suspend decorated die-cuts or stickers (Figure A).
2. Make a large knot with ribbon, yarn or twine, and pull through the center hole in the Spiral until taut against the Spiral. Use the ribbon to hang the Spiral (Figure B).
3. Die-cut multiple colors of construction paper for each die, then decorate and layer using glue. To layer, leave one shape whole and cut highlights out of other colors.
4. Cut two of each die and decorate as mirror images for front and back of each shape (Figures C and D).
5. Create shadings using colored pens or markers.
6. Tape a length of white thread, kite string or fishing line to the back of a decorated die-cut. Tape, glue the matching decorated die-cut to the mirror image die-cut to sandwich the thread, leaving a 12" length of thread extending from the top of the die-cut.
7. Use matching stickers and sandwich the thread between the stickers in the same way as above.
8. Pull the thread through a hole in the Spiral and place a sticker over the thread and hole to secure thread in place.
9. Any combination of decorative dies may be used to complete this project.
