Creating a Folded Die-Cut Shape Booklet
Lesson #7161
Concept:
Create shape books, cards, or gift tags from die-cuts that are folded and hinged.
Objective:
Cut any die on the fold to create a two page, hinged shape booklet.
Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12
Curriculum: Fine Arts & Crafts
SIDE FOLD: This fold is used to create shape books, cards and gift tags. Have fun experimenting with the different size dies.
XL dies make wonderful writing booklets, Large dies are prefect as cards or invitations, and the Small dies are just right for gift tags.
Supplies Used: Cardstock
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Fold a piece of paper in half that is twice as wide as the die design to be cut (Figure A).
- Lay the folded edge of the paper just INSIDE the cutting edge on the side of the die to make the die-cut open like a card or booklet (Figure B).
- Place the die and paper, rubber side down, into the Ellison Machine and cut.
- To create a booklet with a cover and pages, fold the cover paper and one to three pieces of lined or plain paper together. This creates a perfectly aligned book with two to six pages inside.
