Weather Chart

Concept:
Create a poster with a pointer and various weather symbols.
Objective:
Students discuss the weather and turn the pointer to the appropriate weather symbol for each day.
Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, Pre-K-K

- As a result of the activities in grades K-4, all students should develop an understanding of changes in the earth and sky.
Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Black Marking Pen, Brad, Double-Sided Tape, Glue, 1/8" Hand Punch, Plate, Poster Board, Push Pin, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Use a 12" x 15" piece of yellow poster board for the chart. Computer or hand print the words "Weather Chart" across the top (Figure A).
- Trace a plate with a 10" diameter onto the chart with a black marking pen to create a weather wheel.
- Divide the wheel into six even sections (see Main Photo).
- Die-cut the various weather symbols from colored paper and layer the Raindrops and Basic Beginnings Sun with contrasting colors. Layer the Lightning Bolt over a Cloud (see Main Photo).
- Place one weather symbol in each section of the wheel and adhere (see Main Photo).
- Die-cut a 2" Circle and Hand Punch a hole through the center of the circle. Adhere the Circle to the center of the wheel (see Main Photo).
- Die-cut the Arrow from the Heart & Arrow. Hand Punch a hole through the center of the arrow.
- Push a brad through the holes in the Arrow and Circle, attaching the Arrow to the Weather Chart. Secure the brad in place by fastening to the Chart. Leave enough room to allow the arrow to spin (see Main Photo).
