Skeleton and Bones
Lesson #8916

Concept:

Use the anatomically correct Skeleton as a science project or Halloween decoration.
Can use either AllStar or SureCut Dies.

Objective:

Students will learn the various bones of the body and corresponding organs.

Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5, 6-8

Curriculum: Science

Science: Life Science

As a result of the activities in grades K-4, all students should develop an understanding of the life cycles of organisms.

As a result of the activities in grades 5-8, all students should develop an understanding of the structure and function in living things.

Skeleton and Organ die-cuts support both whole and small group instruction. Add each bone as its function is identified in class. Likewise, adhere each organ as its relevant organ system is introduced. Students can create their own figures to review what was learned. Consider using the figures to assess student understanding as well.

Note: This lesson can be created using either Ellison AllStar or SureCut Dies.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Brads, Crayons, Glue, Pens (Colored), Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut the Skeleton with white and gray paper (Figure A).
  2. Cut on the perforations of the gray die-cut and then layer the gray pieces onto the white die-cut using glue. Laminate the Skeleton for sturdier results.
  3. Place a brad through holes at the joints to attach bones to each other (Figures B-D).
  4. Die-cut Organs using various colors of paper. If using the SureCutSkeleton and Organ dies, the SM Organs fit the LG Skeleton and the LG Organs fit the XL Skeleton. Adhere Organs to the Skeleton as appropriate.
  5. Create subtle shadings using colored pens or crayons (see Main Photo).
