Supplies Used: Adhesive Letters, Cardstock, Double-Sided Tape, Glue, Patterned Paper, Scissors, Stickers, Thread (White)

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Accordion or fan fold a 6" x 15" white strip of construction paper or cardstock into three equal 5" panels (Figure A).
  2. Die-cut a 3" Square from the top portion allowing a matching border on the top and side margins. This will make a window (Figure B).
  3. Cut pairs of die-cuts from multiple colors of cardstock, construction or patterned paper.
  4. Decorate and layer the die-cuts using glue or other adhesive. To layer, leave one shape whole and cut highlights from other colors.
  5. Tape a 3" length of white thread to the back of one shape. Attach the mirror image, sandwiching the thread between the two die-cuts. The thread will extend from the top of the die-cuts.
  6. Fasten the threaded decorated shapes above each Square with stickers, allowing the shape to hang freely in the window opening (Figure C).
  7. Use adhesive letters or print school information and attach to card. Decorate card with stickers.
  8. Cut a 12" x 5 1/4" strip of cardstock or construction paper. Fold on perforations. Adhere with glue or double-sided tape to create a sleeve that slides over the card and holds it closed.
  9. Attach contrasting cardstock or construction paper to mat a message (Figure D).
  10. Die-cut XL Envelope A6 and XL Envelope A6 Liner from contrasting colors of cardstock, construction or patterned paper. Attach the Liner to the Envelope (see Main Image).
