Game, Your Number
Lesson #9097

Concept:

Create a game board with numbers, letters and the lid of a box to reinforce student skills.

Objective:

Students reinforce knowledge and memorization of facts.

Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5

Curriculum: Math

Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Box Top (Lid), Glue, Scissors, Patterned Paper

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

Make a math or word game in minutes.

1. Cut a sheet of construction paper or cardstock slightly smaller than the inside lid of a box top.

2. Draw lines dividing the sheet of paper into equal squares or rectangles on both the front and back of the paper (Figure A).

3. Die-cut numbers and letters that are one inch smaller than the square or rectangle, from construction paper or patterned paper (Figure B).

4. On the first side, adhere a different number onto each square. On the second side, adhere a different letter onto each square (Figure C).

5. Laminate the game board.

6. Place the laminated game board inside the box top and roll a die to play the game.

7. Die-cut the XL Cube and LG Domino Dots, then layer the Dots onto the Cube using glue, to make dice that are quieter than traditional dice (Figure D).

8. To use the number game board: Students throw a die into the box top. The number on the die is added to, subtracted or multiplied by the number on which it lands.

9. To use the alphabet game board: Students must say a word that starts with the letter the die lands on, and one that contains the same number of letters as is showing on the face of the die. Spelling words may also be substituted for game.

10. The student who reaches a predetermined score is the winner.
