Weaving Heart

Concept:
Develop motor skills by weaving a holiday heart.
Objective:
Using ribbon and colorful paper strips, students weave holiday art to develop fine motor skills.
Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, Pre-K-K

K-4 Standard 1: Understanding and Applying Media, Techniques and Processes
- Students use different media, techniques and processes to communicate ideas, experiences and stories.
K-4 Standard 3: Choosing and Evaluating a Range of Subject Matter, Symbols and Ideas
- Students select and use subject matter, symbols and ideas to communicate meaning.
Support youngsters with fun weaving projects to develop fine motor skills. Use ribbons and lace for weaving to expose students to multiple textures and patterns. Development of fine motor skills will enable students to gain competency in drawing and writing. The Weaving Heart can also be used for any occasion from Valentine's Day to Mother's Day and Father's Day.
Supplies Used: Cardstock or Construction Paper, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Die-cut the Weaving Heart and Weaving Strips in multiple colors of cardstock or construction paper.
- Use either wavy or straight Strips for horizontal weaving of the Heart.
- Trim the strip ends to fit the border of the Heart (see Main Photo).
