Lesson #9950
Concept:
Demonstrate the plant life cycle creatively.
Can use either AllStar or SureCut Dies.
Objective:
Demonstrate understanding of the plant life cycle with science manipulatives that can be used to decorate science projects and science display boards.
Recommended Grade Levels: 1-2, 3-5
Curriculums: Fine Arts & Crafts, Science
Science: Science as Inquiry
As a result of activities in Grades K-4, all students should develop an understanding of:
- abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry.
- understanding about scientific inquiry.
Science: Life Science
As a result of activities in Grades K-4, all students should develop an understanding of:
- characteristics of organisms.
- life cycles of organisms.
- organisms and environments.
Science: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives
As a result of activities in Grades K-4, all students should develop an understanding of types of resources.
Guide students through the scientific method as they investigate the plant life cycle and observe the stages of growth and development. If liter bottles are not available, recycle alternate containers as pots. As students plant tomato seeds, they appreciate the great effort involved in caring for crops. Encourage students to transplant the tomato plant to the ground for further investigation.
Note: This lesson can be created using either Ellison AllStar or SureCut Dies.
Supplies Used: 2-Liter Bottle, Cardstock or Construction Paper, Colored Pencils or Crayons, Glue, Potting Soil, Scissors, Tomato Seeds or Plant
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
- Die-cut the Plant Life Cycle from cardstock or colored paper. Highlight with colored pencils or crayons (Figure A).
- Cut a strip of brown paper and adhere to a white, rectangular sheet. Die-cut a Grass, Border or hand-cut using green construction paper. Adhere above the brown strip. Adhere the Plant Life Cycle to the scene.
- Die-cut a Circle to create the sun (Figure B).
