Waving Flag Bulletin Board

Lesson #10267

Create a memorable bulletin board for any patriotic occasion.

Grade Level:

Celebrate independence day with a patriotic bulletin board that draws inspiration from a waving flag. While this is perfect for the Fourth of July, it also works well for several other patriotic holidays/events, like Flag Day, Memorial Day, President's Day and Veteran's Day.

Engage students in building a bulletin board with fun, dimensional stars and stripes.

Supplies Used: Butcher Paper, Solid or Patterned Paper, Glue Dots, Staple

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Cover the board with red butcher paper.
  2. Cut wavy white stripes from white butcher paper and staple to the board to create the look of wavy red and white stripes.
  3. Die-cut XL and L Star #1B from solid and patterned papers.
  4. Score on lines from the points of each Star to the point where the two legs (directly across from the tip) intersect. Fold on the score lines to create dimensional Stars (Figure A).
  5. Cut apart some of the Stars to layer on top of other Stars (Figure A).
  6. Attach the stars to the board with a few layers of thick foam dots, as well as a glue dot at the top of each Star (Figure B).
  7. Mount student work onto larger blue paper mats and attach them over the stripes to complete the board (Figure C).
  8. Celebrate your bulletin board with student work (See Main Photo).
