Explore the ocean with these whimsical sea life dies.



Grade Level:

Make magnetic bookmarks or stand-up shapes with a Crab, Octopus, Sand Dollar, Starfish, Shell, Seahorse, Shark and Turtle. Swim into an ocean of fun while discussing Shark Week and various animals that live in the ocean.

Students will enjoy discussing ocean life as they decorate animals that live in the ocean. Make a magnetic bookmark or stand-up shape to highlight a sea life lesson.

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. To make a magnetic bookmark, fold a piece of construction paper in half, and place the folded edge just inside the top cutting edge of the Seahorse #2 shape, and die-cut.
  2. Die-cut another Seahorse #2 shape from construction paper, and decorate with crayons, markers or pens.
  3. Adhere the decorated Seahorse to the folded Seahorse.
  4. Cut two 1" squares from a self-adhesive magnetic business card, and place the magnetic sides together.
  5. Peel the backing from one magnet, and place inside the folded Seahorse.
  6. Peel the backing from the other magnet, close the Seahorse and press the magnets together.
  7. Open the folded Seahorse, and secure on a page of a book or give as a gift (Main Photo).
  8. To make a shape stand up, fold a piece of paper in half. Then fold paper 1/2" up from center fold on both sides, making a pleat.
  9. Align the folded edges along the inside bottom of the Shark #2 shape, and die-cut.
  10. Color the Shark teeth with a white pen or crayon.
  11. Adhere a piece of red paper behind the mouth opening of the Shark (Main Photo).
  12. Shark Week and oceanography will come alive with these sea life dies.
