Parts of Speech Puzzle
Students practice proper sentence structure using puzzle pieces that depict different parts of speech.
Students can use the Puzzle Pieces for self-practice in creating proper sentence structure; or teams can be created to see how many different ways the words can be used by moving adjectives and adverbs around. Students can copy completed sentences onto paper and turn in to teacher for extra credit.
Students should recognize the different parts of speech and be able to create proper sentences using them.
Supplies Used: Construction Paper, Glue, Double-Sided Tape, Scissors
The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.
Color is important when creating Parts of Speech Puzzles. For instance, all Nouns would be on "Red" Puzzle Pieces, all Verbs would be on "Green" Puzzle Pieces, all Adjectives would be on "Yellow" Puzzle Pieces, and so on. Decide on colors before cutting.

- Computer-generate or hand-write practice sentences. Write or type large enough to make the words easy to use and cut apart. Extra words make the exercise more fun.
- Cut the sentences apart and adhere the different parts of speech on the correct color Puzzle piece. Adhere with glue or double-sided tape.
