Inspirational Door Hanger

Create an inspirational door hanger to remember God as the center of home and family.

Discuss the importance of good universal values like peace, love and happiness. Consider how such values help us in our personal lives and in our relationship with others in the world. Create inspirational door hangers to symbolically remind students of good values found in faith.

Following a lesson on faith and the family, create an inspirational door hanger celebrating God as the center of family life.

Supplies Used: Cardstock, Colored Pencils, Crayons, Fishing Line, Glue, Kite String, Ribbon, Scissors

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut the LG Word, God from blue construction paper or cardstock.
  2. Punch two holes at the top of letters "G" and "d." Punch three holes at the bottom of each letter in the Word, God.
  3. Create the hanger by running 12" piece of string or fishing line through the punched holes at the top of the Word, God. Tie a knot at the end of the string (Figure A).
  4. Cut a 10" length of yellow ribbon. Using the ribbon, tie a bow at the top of the string to complete the hanger (Figure A).
  5. Cut four 2 1/4" squares, using blue and green construction paper. Cut two 2" white squares for student artwork.
  6. Have students draw a picture of their home on one white square and a picture of their family on the other white square. Students may color their pictures with crayons or colored pencils. Attach the house picture to a blue square and the family picture to a green square. Center the pictures on the colored squares.
  7. Die-cut two dark yellow SM Suns #1C. Cut a two light yellow 1 1/2" circles to fit in the center of each Sun. Adhere the circles to the Suns.
  8. Cut two 10" lengths of string and one 8" length of string.
  9. Insert one end of the 10" string through the bottom of the "G" in the Word, God to create a 5" loop and tie a knot below the "G" to keep the loop in place (Figure B).
  10. Sandwich the ends of the string between the matted picture of the house and a blue square and adhere (Figure C).
  11. Follow steps 8 and 9 to hang the Sun from the letter "o," using the 8" string. Sandwich the two ends of the 4" loop between the two Suns.
  12. Follow steps 8 and 9 to hang the family picture from the letter "d," using the remaining 10" string. Sandwich the two ends of the 5" loop between the family picture and a green square (see Main Photo).
