Multipurpose Tags

Create fun, unique tags for backpacks, lunch bags or lanyards.

Tiny Shrink Film Tags are easy and fun to make. They are a great addition to a key chain and make a wonderful Mother's or Father's Day gift. The Cowboy Boot is shown here on a book bag and the Apple is shown attached to a lunch sack, but ANY large Ellison die can be used to create a cute tag!

Create tiny tags that will attach to a student's book bag or lunch sack for easy recognition.

Supplies Used: Beaded Metal Chains, Clear Shrink Film, Cardstock, Colored Pencils, Colored Pens, Hand Punch, Nail Buffer, Permanent Markers, Ribbon, Scissors, Toaster Oven

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Die-cut a large Cowboy Boot or Apple from clear shrink film for each student (Figure A).
  2. Use permanent markers or colored pencils to color and decorate the design. If colored pencils are used, use a nail buffer to slightly rough up the Shrink Film surface before coloring and help the pencil color to adhere better (Figure B).
  3. Punch a hole in the plastic design where a chain or ribbon will come through (see stem on Figure B).
  4. Preheat oven or toaster oven to 250 degrees. Watch for objects to shrink. Remove when ready and cool. Be sure to follow directions for shrink film.
  5. Add a string, ribbon or thin yarn to the tag and enjoy (see Main Photo).
