Hi there, I'm Tessa from Tales from Outside the Classroom and I'm excited to showcase a reading-themed bulletin board today. My class is a group of reluctant readers and one of my biggest goals this year is to help foster a love of reading with them. I'm trying to fine new and fun books to read with them each day to help show them how great reading can be. This new bulletin board will highlight some of our favorites!
Ellison SuperStar Machine
Letter dies (I used 1 1/2" letter to go with my heart)
Sizzix Bigz Layered Shapes #2 die (heart)
Sizzix Bigz Open Book die
Construction paper in at least two colors
Rubber cement, glue or hot glue
First, cut out the letters for "we" and "books". I used 1 1/2" letters. I cut large sheets of construction paper into individual squares and then placed a square on top of the letter before I put the die through.
I used some paper scraps from our bin for our layered heart. I love the layered shape dies because I think they give a great effect to a normally flat title. I placed glue on the center of the smaller heart before gluing it down. After it had rested a moment, I pulled up the edges on the small heart to give it some dimension and pop it up a bit.
I used rubber cement to glue the letters and heart onto one of our cabinet doors. All of our bulletin boards are already accounted for, so this way I'm using up a space I didn't already have accounted for. I used rubber cement because the paper peels off easily and it doesn't leave a residue.
I cut out a bunch of open books to use to display titles of our favorite books. Here are the first two we put up.
This quick and easy bulletin board will help us talk about and enjoy books all year long! I'm hoping before winter break, we've filled up our whole space with books we're loving!
