Ellison Education Series: Get Holiday Decorating With This Triangle Tree Mobile!
Hi, I'm Sandi Genovese, and welcome to this episode of the Ellison Education Video Series. You can combine the study of geometry with crafts to create moving mobiles which is what I've done here. If you look, it looks just like a Christmas tree and the message is written on a tag at the top. But when I flatten it with my hand you can see that both the tree itself and even the pot in which the tree will sit is created with triangles, and then a star and as I mentioned a tag on the top. In order to do that, you want to start by cutting out the geometric shapes - the triangles. So, whether you're going to use the plastic back dye or the wood back dye, either one, the steel rule works great. You're going to cut two of the green for the triangles. This is the same size triangle. I've cut a piece of paper into a strip. I've used tape on the dye to indicate this is where the strip is going to get placed. This is going to generate the shape that I want for the base or the pot in which the tree will sit. So, if I move this strip out of the way, you can see once I've cut it in the machine, it's going to generate this shape. Once again, you need two because you're going to trap the thread in between these layers. In order to do the cutting, what I've done is I've marked one. I've gone ahead with a pencil and I've marked the places where I'm going to separate this triangle into layers. In order to avoid having to do it twice, I'm going to just use a little bit of removable adhesive and I am going to place it on the second triangle so that it will just help to hold these two. I'm going to tamp them so they're nicely aligned. It will hold them together.
